Tips on ragging
How would one apply a rag-rolled faux finish technique?
RAG- ROLLING
TOOLS-
* Paint tray
* 18" x 18"fabric (you can use fabric fro old T-shirts, sweatshirts, linen, J-cloth, lace or just use your imagination.
PAINT-
*Oil paint or Latex paint in desired sheen
THE TECHNIQUE
A cloth is dampened in the paint and bunched into a sausage, then rolled lightly hand over hand across the surface. This creates a sense of movement, with varying patterns depending on the type of rag used.
With a handful of paint, apply to the rag and work into the rag until dampened thoroughly.
Starting at the bottom of the wall, using a fairly light touch hand over hand, roll the rag up the wall in irregular patterns no longer than 3 foot sections. Do not be afraid to cross over existing patterns.
HINTS
*Mask off ceilings, door frames, corners, etc.
*More than one color can be used, each color should be dry before applying the next color.
*Choosing colors tone-on-tone will create a finished look of linen or suede on the wall.
NEGATIVE RAG-ROLLING
Using a dry rag, you are removing an oil glaze. This techniques generally used in smaller areas (furniture), as oil glazes dry too fast to attempt an entire wall.
