Frequently Asked Question
Faux Tile

How do I create the look of tile with paint?

FAUX TILE

This is technique done with a dry brush and very little paint. You can recreate the look of tile or render very soft highlights and shadows very easily. It takes a little practice but the results are worth looking at.

TOOLS:
Tape
Ruler
Small fitch brush
Pie pan

GLAZE:
Equal parts of acrylic craft paint or latex paint.
Combined with a latex glazing liquid.

TECHNIQUE:
1. Mask off your pattern or design.
2. Using a dry brush, dab into paint.
3. Blot brush on cardboard or paper towel.
4. Use a very soft touch to apply paint to surface (remember you are layering so do not try to achieve the color on first application).

HELPFUL HINTS:
* To achieve darker colors you must layer in the depth but still maintain the very soft whisper of color.
*Always check your brush on paper before doing the surface.
